The Alto K10 Outperforms The Swift In the Global NCAP Crash Test

Global NCAP recently performed crash testing on several new vehicles offered in India as part of its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, including the Alto K10 entry-level hatchback. Despite the Alto K10's unimpressive safety ratings, they are still superior to those of its more powerful stablemates, including the Swift, S-Presso, Ignis, and the Wagon R, which were tested last year.

With 21.67 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection and 3.52 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, the Alto K10 received two stars for adult occupant protection and zero stars for child occupant protection. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seat belt reminders, and rear parking sensors are all included in its standard safety equipment. The Alto K10 ranges from Rs. 3.99 lakh to Rs 5.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Alto K10 received a two-star rating for adult occupant safety in the most recent Global NCAP crash test, with a score of 21.67 out of 34. According to the test, the driver and passenger only obtained "minimal" or "poor" protection on their chests, thighs, and knees but "excellent" protection on their heads and necks. The tibias' level of protection was assessed as "minimal" and "sufficient".

The driver's head and pelvis received "excellent" protection during the side impact test of the car, while the chest and abdomen received "poor" and "sufficient" protection, respectively. The side pole impact test could not be performed because side and curtain airbags were absent. However, the Alto K10's bodyshell integrity was determined to be stable following the incident, indicating that it could resist heavier loads than the 64 kmph crash test speed used by Global NCAP.

The Alto K10, an entry-level hatchback, scored 3.52 out of 49 and a child occupant safety rating of zero stars. The child restraint system was mounted rear-facing with the adult seatbelt in the instance of an 18-month-old child, offering "excellent" head protection and "poor" chest protection. The forward-facing child restraint system was utilised with the adult seatbelt for a child who was three years old, exposing the head to impact and increasing the risk of injuries.

The Alto K10 was not subjected to the side impact test for child protection since Maruti does not provide ISOFIX child-seat anchors. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seat belt reminders, and rear parking sensors are all standard on the hatchback. Higher-end models also come with impact-sensing door unlock, central door locking, and speed-sensing auto door lock. Given its price range of Rs 3.99 lakh to Rs 5.95 lakh (ex-showroom), the Alto K10 rivals the Renault Kwid and is a substitute for the Maruti S-Presso.
