India is embracing tighter emission norms from April 2023. Hence 17 cars & SUVs will be discontinued in the Indian market.
India’s new Real-Time Driving Emission Norms (RDE) will be implemented from April 1, 2023. Many cars and SUVs from top companies like Toyota, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, and others that do not meet the requirements will be discontinued on the roads from April 2023.
The Real Driving Emissions will measure pollutants such as nitrogen oxides emitted from a car. Once the new norms are implemented, car owners must update their engines to lower emissions.
Upgrading the engine will be quite expensive, especially for car owners who have diesel vehicles. It is also one of the reasons why many companies are choosing to discontinue the models.
The new norms of RDE suggest that the vehicles should have an onboard self-diagnosing device to scan the real-time driving emission level. The device will look after the essential parts, such as catalytic converters and oxygen sensors, to meet the required level. Besides this, cars and SUVs have to add programmed fuel injectors to control the level of fuel brunt.
