What is Park Assist in Cars?
Park assist in a car is an advanced automobile technology to improve your parking experience. It uses a combination of cameras, sensors, and radar technology to provide you with the information required to safely park your car.
The data is shown in the form of a live feed on the car's dashboard screen. It will help you manoeuvre into your parking bay and aid with parallel parking. Park assist uses visual or audio cues to switch gears, turn right or left, and much more.
Some variants can also completely take over driving and park the car themselves.
Park Assist usually works by toggling a specific button in your car. When you are at the space that you would like to park in, simply press that button. The park assist system in your car will then check the suitability of that spot. If it is good enough, you can either let the park assist control the manoeuvres by leaving the steering wheels or manually do the work.
If you let the park assist park your car in the spot, you will still be in complete control of the accelerator, brake, and clutch. The park assistant will analyse the open space and draw a grid of the trajectory. The lines will turn green if your path is clear to continue and red if not.
Here is how to use your park assist system:
Parallel Parking: When using the fully-automatic mode of the park assist in your car, you need to come next to the already parked car. Your bumper should extend past its rear wheels. When done, shift into reverse gear to engage the rear camera. Select the parallel park button to view grids on your multifunctional screen on the dashboard. Your car will be moved to the open space.
Reverse Parking: The process to complete reverse parking is similar to that of parallel parking. Simply move to the open parking space and click on the reverse parking option. Once the system has analysed the area, slowly release the brakes to park the car.
