Jeep has pulled the plug on the petrol powertrain for the Compass. The bookings for the petrol variant have also been stopped. The Jeep Compass is now only available with a diesel powertrain only. The company already took out the petrol manual transmission from the portfolio back in December 2022. The petrol powertrain that used to do its duty for the Jeep Compass made a good 163 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. It was offered in three variants: Sport, Limited (O), and Model S. Currently, the Jeep Compass uses a 2.0-litre, in-line, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that pushes 172 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, this engine comes mated to six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic.

This move could be a result of the BSVI Phase-2 emission regulations that kicked in on 1 April 2023 and the 1.4-litre petrol engine could not meet the strict norms that came with it. The company is yet to make an official announcement of what the future plans are, so there could be a new engine that could replace the 1.4-litre petrol. In other markets, a 1.3-litre petrol engine does duty for the Jeep Compass. It pushes 130 bhp when coupled to a manual transmission and 150 bhp when mated to a six-speed DCT. The same engine also is used for the Jeep Compass in a plug-in hybrid guise.

The Jeep Compass prices now start at Rs. 21.44 lakh for the base trim and go all the way to Rs. 31.64 lakh. At this price bracket, it rivals the likes of the Hyundai Tuscon, Tata Harrier, Citoren C5 Aircorss and the Volkswagen Tiguan to name a few.
