First Mall In India

First Mall in India

Spencer Plaza, Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Spencer Plaza serves as one of the city's contemporary monuments. When it was completed, it was one of the largest retail malls in South Asia and India's oldest. As of March 2010, it was the country's 11th-largest mall.

The mall is home to prominent anchor stores, including Westside and Landmark, as well as a variety of local and global brands like Nike, Adidas, and Regal. McDonald's, the biggest fast food corporation, has opened an outlet within the mall.

The plaza has over 700 stores and about 22,000 visitors daily, growing to 40,000 on holidays and 60,000 on festival days. To keep a record of footfalls, the facility contains three counters. On weekends, about 20,000 two-wheelers stop in the lot.
