Our Park+ Highlight of the Day includes information on Hyundai's upcoming micro SUV, the Exter.

Hyundai Motor India has revealed the name of its upcoming micro SUV for the Indian market – Exter. The brand-new Hyundai Exter is anticipated to be introduced in India around the festive season, where it will be marketed to young Gen Z consumers. Hyundai claims the Exter represents the great outdoors, travel, and leisure. In India, this small SUV has already been seen undergoing testing.

Mr. Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., commented on the announcement, “We are proud to announce the name of our new SUV – Hyundai Exter that exemplifies the pulse of Gen Z buyers while empowering them with a smart mobility solution to fuel their wanderlust. Hyundai Exter is the 8th model in our line up with an SUV body style, and we are confident that this new member to our family will provide further fillip to our growth in SUV sales.”

What to expect from a Hyundai Exter?

The K1 platform, which supports the Grand i10 Nios, will be the foundation for the upcoming Hyundai Exter (codenamed Ai3). Although it will have a distinct identity, it may take some design cues from a product sold internationally. It is anticipated to keep its boxy shape while incorporating contemporary features like LED taillights and connecting DRLs with split headlights, among others. That is, one can anticipate the SUV to be fairly feature-rich, just like other Hyundai vehicles, despite being an entry-level SUV.

Hyundai has not yet disclosed the Exter's engine specifications. However, a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 82 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque is anticipated, along with an AMT and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Although in a detuned form compared to the Venue, the automaker may also include the 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine in this SUV. The price of the upcoming Hyundai Exter is anticipated to start at Rs 6 lakh.

Hyundai currently offers Venue, Creta, Alcazar, Kona EV, Tucson, and Ioniq 5 in India.
