Experience Renault Duster

The Renault Duster is a rugged and capable SUV known for its off-road prowess, spacious interiors, and a range of engine options, making it suitable for both urban and outdoor adventures.

The Renault Duster is one such car that initiated the compact SUV segment into the Indian market. With its bold presence and simple design, the Duster captured the market share rapidly as it jumped into the market. Buy gaining around 28% market share in its category in 2012, Duster became one of the most significant products for the company.
Renault Duster was the car that actually initiated the compact SUV segment in the country and had its latest model in 2022 only. In February 2022, the vehicle was discontinued. It was launched back in July 2012 with a variety of modifications available at that time. After that, the company launched several versions of the vehicle, including an All Wheel Drive (AWD) in 2014. The last model of 2022 was available in a total of 11 variants and the line-up was available in petrol ones only. It starts with the base trim, the RXE, and goes all the way up to the top-end RXZ turbo. The Duster was offered a normal petrol engine and a turbo version. Out of the 11, only 3 of them were offered a 1.3L turbo-charged. When compared to the previous year's model, a new 1.3L turbo engine was introduced in 2022 while shutting the AWD and Diesel versions down. Other than that, no noticeable change was observed.
The Duster compact SUV came with a price tag of Rs. 8.49 lacs for the base variant RXE and went all the way up to Rs. 14.25 lacs for the top-end trim. The intermediate versions like the RXS, RXZ, and RXS turbo CVT were in the range of Rs. 9 to 13 lacs (approx.)
The latest gen Duster looks quite appealing and gives an upright stand. Coming to the front, it has a bold yet simple design. The front grille is having a lot of chrome treatment and even the hood holds some grooves. - The headlamps may look stuffed inside but they are designed with some chrome elements for further differentiation. The fog lamps are right beside them with plastic cladding. Even a non-functional skid plate is provided for that SUVish touch. - The side profile is really clean and sorted compared to the front. The wheel arcs give it a very boxy touch and even the side steps are available. When it comes to wheels, the diamond-cut 5-spoke looks so fabulous on this car. A noticeable thing is that the C-pillar window pane is really small. - The rear isn't too busy. The LED setup is vibrant enough for a head-turner. The rear lid lifter is painted with chrome and the rear skid plate is also having a greyish touch. The rear profile feels very upright, sort of lifted to balance the design. Duster's roof is fitted with roof rails and is functional as well.
The interiors look way more aesthetic than the exterior. Quality materials are used in terms of plastic are well and a soft touch finish is also provided for a premium feel. The instrument cluster is more or less analogue with just the fuel gauge being digital. - The central console & A/C unit may look a bit old school but the quality of the buttons is good. The UI of the touchscreen is quite plain and could have been more attractive. The steering wheel is sufficiently round and leather-wrapped. Also, the glove box is cooled and sufficiently deep for enough storage. - The rear seats are sufficiently wide for 3 people to sit, irrespective of their build. For additional comfort, a chunky centre armrest is provided. Due to the vehicle's build, there is enough knee room, leg room, and headroom. Cup holders are provided at both the rear and front passenger but the 12V power socket & A/C vents are still missing. - The boot lid is wide enough and provides proper space for every kind of luggage. The boot tip might be a problem for some people but the space is not too deep, which is nice. The rear seats can also be split into a 60:40 ratio for additional storage.
The Renault Duster comes with numerous safety features like ABS, brake assist, central locking, seat belt warning, driver-adjustable front seat, rear parking sensor, EBD, and ESC. It also includes driver assistance technologies like hill assist, Impact Sensing Auto Door Unlock, crash sensor, and impact beams. - The surprising fact is that it only offers 2 airbags, even for the top-end model. For a car of its build, it's just not enough. However, the build of the car is said to be quite solid. Coming to safety ratings, the vehicle is said to have scored a 3-star in the NCAP crash tests.
Coming to paper figures, the 1.5L petrol engine delivers 105 Bhp at 5600 RPM and a maximum torque of 142 nm at 4000 RPM. Whereas the turbocharged 1.3L is supposed to deliver 154 Bhp at 5500 RPM and a maximum torque of 254 nm at its peak. - With a capability of hitting about 170 Kmh and touching a 0-100 in 10.89s, the Duster shows decent performance in its class. Of course, it is not the best in the segment but is not too bad. Due to its agile handling and 16-inch wheels, it shows a stable performance on the road. You might have to face some body roll but its platform is capable to handle rough patches and even going off-road to some extent.
The ARAI-certified mileage for Diesel manual and automatic is expected to be around 19.87 Kmpl and 18 Kmpl respectively. The latest model only offers Petrol engines, with city mileage being around 15 Kmpl and 18 Kmpl for highway driving.
